Behind The Veil

In an article by Elizabeth W. Fernea and Robert A. Fernea written, the authors go into the meanings and interpretations of the veil that has carried many names in different parts of the world, women in the Middle East. It has a long debate among the people in the United States on the hardcore restrictions of the veil, and whether or not that it seriously considered a humiliating symbol of inequality among women. It was very interesting to read about the comments that women werewere asked questions in relation to their own opinion on the veil, and women here in the U.S. When a Westerner in the practice to wear a veil that covers all but the eyes of a woman in the Middle East it is very respond to widespread, with her eyes a look of shock and wonder why such a thing was allowed to continue. They are treated so unfairly? Men are the oppression of women, it seems disrespectful, etc ... What the West is lacking in these cases is an understanding ofPeople themselves, and where does this practice. It is an essential part of religion for Muslim women to cover themselves to get rid of several bad things. Especially in the woman from head to toe, there is no temptation for the young men made, and thus the woman is kept safe from the wandering eyes, the male to a temptation of the moral center of a pious Muslim. It also provides a woman with the ability to represent themselves and have addressed themselvesby the way she does not arise in the way she looks. People learn on the women, who they are based to be determined. Another important thing is to understand that the veil in many areas, represents a certain status. Women who are able to wear, the veil itself in order to be at a certain level of society. You are not the women who stay up to date with the men must work economically, it would because it is true that these women may not be able to afford such goods. So in this way, it is a way forto encourage women to express their own views of social status.

On the question of the headscarf and what is its significance for them, there are many women, if not the majority, who prefer to wear the veil in the Middle East. For them it is a simple sign of religious commitment, and adopt a social ritual, as well as the use of high heels in the American culture. There is also a kind of protection, as already mentioned by sex offenders, and immoral thoughts against a woman.

Some of myfirst thoughts were with those in the U.S. to make moral judgments about the prompt, select direct the wearing of the veil. How can we sit in our view, and to make decisions about a culture, we can not understand how they have been for generations? We are the melting pot of diversity in the world. If diversity is here in the U.S., we are fighting for equality and justice for those people in the minority, African American struggles in the '60s, gay rights, gay marriage,Women and men, ect ... But on the other side of the world we see an element of diversity, such as the veil and assess it as something immoral and slightly corrected. I think we as Americans try to see things through the eyes of those who are in the way we try to question and understand that this way of life, just as naturally to practitioners than our ways of life Learning should be to us.
